In 1886, the Lazzarini family set up a shoemaker's workshop in Ascoli Piceno in Italy. A wonderful characteristic of Lazzarini's work was the flexibility and comfort he managed to impart into all the footwear he made. The younger Lazzarini, Emidio, then took up the family business in the fifties, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.
In the tradition of his family, Emidio also managed to develop shoes which were unparalleled in terms of freedom of movement, flexibility and fit. In short, he had created a blessing for both athletes and those who just wanted a comfortable shoe. The Pantofola d'Oro legend had begun.
Legendary names on the legendary slipper
As John Charles, Juventus' star player, put on Emidio's shoes for the very first time, he exclaimed: "This is not a shoe, it is a slipper. A golden slipper!", thus giving the brand its name: Pantofola d'Oro (the Golden Slipper). The 'slipper' has been worn by many icons of the beautiful game: Bergomi, Capello, Di Canio, Garrincha, Klinsmann, Mancini. Many others have also performed their legendary stuff on this legendary slipper.
